The Vermont Ibutwa Mission aims to help women in South Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo, who are victims of sexual gender-based violence. It seeks to help them rebuild their lives by addressing their physical, psychological, and economic needs and by challenging the cultural attitudes that leave the women to bear the entire burden of their attacks alone.
On may 31, 2013, Cleophace Mukeba, founder of the Vermont Ibutwa Initiative, described the initiative in a presentation to a meeting of the Alliance Francaise in Colchester.
