AFLCR French Classes for Adults
The AFLCR French instruction program emphasizes oral expression within the necessary boundaries of grammar, along with listening, reading and writing skills. Classes are taught by experienced instructors who are native and near-native French speakers.

Our short and sweet summer session is perfect for keeping up recently acquired skills, preparing for trips to francophone locales, or as a bridge to our 11-week standard Fall term offerings. Beginner? Try our brand-new 2-week immersion starter course, Commençons! (Let's Begin!).
6 week classes are $135; the 2-week immersion class is $240. Member price: $120; $215 for the immersion class. Tuition fees are non-refundable. Classes may be cancelled if insufficiently subscribed; in general, 6 students is the minimum to run any course.

Standard spring and fall term classes meet from 6:30-8:00 in the evening. Tuition for an 11-week course is $245.00, due with registration form. This fee is non-refundable. Current members of the AFLCR are eligible for a 10% discount. For the first four levels, a textbook is provided for use during the session; if you wish to keep it, the cost is $20. Other classes may require a text to be purchased if the instructor so chooses.
Beginning French A |

This introduction to French covers topics including greetings, telling time, the weather, numbers, dates and seasons, expressing possession, and likes and dislikes. Basic grammar instruction includes the verbs to be, to have, and verbs ending in -er as well as adjective agreement and definite and indefinite articles. |

| Beginning French B | |
This course touches on topics such as family life and home-related terms, clothing and colors, and talking about the past. Grammar topics include the verbs to come and to go, regular -ir and -re verbs, and verbs for describing everyday activities, an introduction to past tenses, and question words. |

| Intermediate French A | |
Learn vocabulary and forms for talking about food and drink, learning, politics, city life, media, and law enforcement as well as terms for expressing quantity. Grammar topics include the verb to do and other common regular and irregular verbs, and more about expressing the past as well as direct and indirect object pronouns. |

| Intermediate French B | |
Course covers terms relating to health, sports and leisure activities, daily routines and the body, employment and professions, taking trips, and love and relationships. Grammar topics include reflexive verbs, the future and conditional tenses, forming adverbs, the subjunctive mood, and using the pronouns y and en. |

| Spoken French I: French for Living | |
For those who have a good grasp of Intermediate-level grammar and want to practice speaking. Vocabulary and idioms for everyday situations and travel will be presented. |

| Spoken French II: Discussing Culture and Society | |
For those who are comfortable with speaking and ready to broach general and individual interests in French. Topics will be selected collaboratively by the instructor and students. |

| French For Travelers: | |
Learn to navigate cities, order delicious food, find the cultural hotspots, and not feel lost when you go to Montreal, Quebec City, or any of the 35 countries where French is spoken. The final class period is a daytrip to Montreal (to be scheduled), an opportunity to put your language skills to the test! Open to all levels. $15 fee for textbook and CD is required. |
